You can test this out with a live project. If you scroll down and click on ‘Details’ you’ll see ‘contract address’ and to the right a blue clickable link containing the Ethereum address of the contract. Just like this below. Click that link and it will take you to the contract on Etherscan.

Now you should be safely on Etherscan. You should have the contract up in front of you. You now want to click ‘contract‘ followed by ‘read contract‘. This should take you to a page similar to this:

Enter Your Token ID

We will now interact with the contract in order to access the metadata. Scroll down (usually right to the bottom) to the tab titled, tokenURI. Click on that and enter the token ID of the NFT you are attempting to look up.

Coinbase wallet.

Tap on “Receive” to go to your cryptocurrency wallet address.

3. Tap on “BTC Wallet” to change your wallet

After you’ve tapped on “Receive”, you’ll land on your Bitcoin wallet address.

By default, tapping on “Receive” will open your Bitcoin wallet address.

This is indicated on the “BTC Wallet” tab that shows your Bitcoin holdings.

If you want to receive Bitcoin, this is the wallet address that you want to share.

However, if you want to receive another cryptocurrency, you need to change your wallet first.

This is because you won’t be able to receive another cryptocurrency in your Bitcoin wallet address except for Bitcoin.

If you want to receive another cryptocurrency, tap on the “BTC Wallet” tab first.

Click add custom token.

The next screen shows the quantity of NFTs you hold in that collection. Select import token.

Back on your account home in your MetaMask wallet, your NFT tokens should be visible.

You should see the quantity of NFTs you own in that particular collection next to the NFT ticker (LION in this case).

Lazy Lions are expensive! I only own one. But I love it.

Other thoughts about NFTs & browser wallets

This should go without saying, but be slow, deliberate, and careful when connecting wallets or transferring NFTs. Before sending, always check the first 5 and last 5 digits of wallet addresses.
Always have your recovery seed phrase physically written (preferably more than once) and have that paper somewhere safe in your dwelling. Never give this phrase to anyone.

If you are trying to use the browser extension of Metamask you wont be able to visualise your NFTs according to a Metamask article released 7 days ago.

You can however view them if you have the Metamask mobile app. If your NFTs are on Ethereum they should populate automatically.
If they dont populate automatically you can try the steps that are outlined in that article:

  1. Find the NFT’s address. On OpenSea, for example, on the NFT’s page under Details, there is a blue hyperlinked value labelled “Contract Address”.
If you click on this, it will take you to the contract’s address on Etherscan; at the top-left of that page, there should be an icon labelled “Contract”, and to the right, a long string of letters and numbers. This is the address of the contract that created your NFT.

Now for the main walkthrough.

How to view your NFTs on MetaMask

1. Go to your profile page on OpenSea or whichever NFT exchange you’re using.
Under the ‘collected‘ tab you should see the NFTs that you’d like to be visible in your MetaMask wallet.

2. Click the MetaMask icon in the top right of your browser if you have it pinned.

If you don’t have it pinned, click the puzzle icon and navigate to your MetaMask and open it.

You should see your assets and your wallet should say ‘connected’ in the top right. Scroll to the bottom of your wallet and select import tokens.

Toggle to custom token on the right.

You should see three blank fields you need to fill in.

The first item you’ll need to enter is the token contract address.

Tap onto an NFT to view more details about it. DeFi Wallet currently supports Chain NFTs on the Chain, ERC721 and ERC1155 NFTs on the Ethereum network, as well as NFTs on Cronos Beta.

What NFT attributes can I view in DeFi Wallet?

Attributes at both collection and token levels can be viewed in the NFT feature.

At collection level, collection name, icon, description, total supply, the number of holders, chain name, schema type, and contract address are viewable on the collection page which can be accessed from the token detail page.

At token level, token ID and NFT will be displayed.

After you’ve opened the Coinbase app, log in to your account if you haven’t already.

At the bottom navigation bar, you’ll see a double arrow icon in the middle.

For generative NFT collections, additional information such as traits and rarity ranking also can be viewed if available.

NFT Trait percentage is the rarity indicator of individual traits which is calculated as

Total number of NFTs with a certain trait type / Total supply

NFT Rarity ranking

Rarity ranking is calculated based on the aggregated trait rarities of each NFT in a statistical way, which means the Rarity ranking is not a fully objective measure to rank the rarity of each NFTs in the corresponding collection.

The rarity rankings across different NFT platforms and rarity ranking tools are varied since different statistical approaches are adopted nowadays.

Sending early weth offers

Your other use case is to continue doing what you do in option 1. However, you can also look at items that are not listed.

You can then drop a somewhat decent wrapped eth offer on that unrevealed NFT. The owner may think you are a fool because you are paying more for their NFT than the other unrevealed ones and rapidly accept your offer.

Little do they know what they are parting with.

4. To Protect Yourself

Possibly the most important reason to learn about all of this stuff is to understand that others are doing this on every single project.

Don’t be the one that sells your 100 eth NFT for 10 bucks. Protect yourself.

In Conclusion

A lot of this sounds outright Machiavellian as I write it, I can’t deny that.

At the moment you can see your NFTs only on Metamask Mobile. You can add NFTs as custom tokens in the web extension, but you will not be able to see them natively in the UI.

MetaMask Mobile displays NFTs under Collectibles. Please remember that some NFTs will not show up on the mobile app under Collectibles or may not show up correctly.

If your NFT doesn’t show up automatically, try the following to make it appear:

Step 1 : Find the NFT’s address.

On most NFT interfaces you will find a blue hyperlinked value labeled “Contract Address”. If you click on this, it will take you to the contract’s address on Etherscan; at the top-left of that page, there should be an icon labeled “Contract”, and to the right, a long string of letters and numbers.

This is the address of the contract that created your NFT.
